African Immigrant Human Care
Sudanese Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mission
Omaha, NE
Members of the Sudanese Evangelical Lutheran Church are established Sudanese immigrants who desire to serve other African immigrants. A distribution center provides donated furniture, household items and clothing. Grant funds will help take this ministry to the next level. A food bank will be established for those in need. Materials will be purchase to improve and enhance their current English classes. The ministry van is used to transport immigrants to job interviews, work, medical appointments, the immigration office, the housing authority and other emergency destinations. A small portion of funds will be used for van insurance and gas. Currently all activities are being done by dedicated volunteers but plans are being made to add a paid staff to organize and direct the outreach activities to expand and increase the availability of the services to the community.
