Respite Care for Foster Parents
Lutheran Family Services (LFS) is fortunate to have many loving, caring families who are willing to welcome abused and neglected children in their homes when it is unsafe for the children to remain with their birth families. LFS furnishes frequent respite by trained providers to allow the foster parents time away from their responsibilities. Studies have identified respite care as a critical need for these individuals to continue with foster parenting.

Geriatric Care Management for Low Income Older Adults
Geriatric care management, which includes planning for health, legal, financial, social service and housing needs of older adults, is provided to low-income individuals on a sliding fee scale to ensure that all older adults have equitable access to needed services. The geriatric care managers also work with the older adults’ caregivers or family members, either local or at distance, to give them assurance through advice and support that their older family members are well cared for.

Self-Sufficiency of Newly Arrived Refugees
As a voluntary agency responsible for resettling refugees in the Denver metro area, LFS must help them find employment within the first 4-6 months of their arrival. LFS has found that the best results are obtained through use of a dedicated employment specialist who provides assistance to the refugee in preparing them for work, as well as making direct contact with employers for job interviews, on-the-job training possibilities and job coaching or interpretation.
