Mobile Compassion Center
Lutheran Mission Society
Baltimore, MD
Lutheran Mission Society (LMS) operates six compassion centers that provide emergency assistance, food, clothing, limited heath services, and other care to those in need. Large scale disasters during the past few years has prompted LMS to launch a new ministry in the form of a mobile compassion center dedicated to providing care to people affected by a natural or human disaster. This project requires the purchase and outfitting of several moving-van type trailers. These trailers can be stocked and used daily as a compassion center but ready at a moment’s notice to be transported to a critical relief area.
Multiple Program Grant for
Lutheran Community Services
Wilmington, DE
LIFE
The food ministry program of Lutheran Community Services has experienced a 20% growth in the past year. To help meet this growing demand it is necessary to expand their food program. Project plans are to determine an additional site for mobile pantry distribution, recruit and orient additional distribution volunteers and increase financial support to purchase more food.
Homelessness Prevention
Their housing ministry is exclusively focused on preventing homelessness in Wilmington and New Castle counties. This is done with zero-interest loans and grants to low income people who are behind in their rent or mortgage or need funds for a security deposit to obtain decent housing. Most of these loans or grants are for about $500. Included in this project are educational sessions on basic budgeting and referrals to providers of financial literacy counseling so clients will be better prepared to deal with any future financial uncertainties.
